THE ECHO SESSION – DEBUT ALBUM ‘WAIT AND SEE’
+ ‘MYSTERY MAN’ SINGLE...

“Glasgow label ‘Flowers in the Dustbin’ has the potential
to become one of those labels people talk about
in 20/30 years time.”  LOUDER THAN WAR

Imagine The La’s had never released an album.  Or The Kinks.  Glasgow band The Echo Session are true, almost lost genius.  Possessed with a natural sense of melody and an incisive intelligence, led by Tam Maher, they could and should have reached a wide audience.  Through a variety of events far too detailed for an introduction, they released one single, ‘Tell Me’ in 2009, then nothing.  These are some of the band’s early recordings, from around 2005.  Raw, but nonetheless beautiful.  A few were produced by Joe Kane, the rest are band recordings made in flats and rehearsal studios. Some are one take live recordings.  In 2016/17 the first of these, ‘But I’m Scared’ and ‘Wait and See’, were released as singles gaining radio play and glowing reviews.  The debut album, ‘Wait and See’ is out Friday 25th October 2019 on digipak cd, download and streaming.  It is preceded by new single ‘Mystery Man’ out Friday 11th October.

In advance of the official release date the album is available for immediate dispatch exclusively from our Bandcamp store here:

AMPT are throwing one helluva minifest - (and it’s for charity!)...

Middlesbrough’s Southfield Road will play host to an all day music festival with a difference at The AMPT All-dayer, on 13th July.
Curated by local musician Heather Story, a collection of some of the North’s best acts are heading to the Westgarth Social Club to raise awareness and funds for mental health charity Middlesbrough & Stockton Mind.
AMPT, (Attending Music Performances Together) is a non-profit music promotion organisation, with a focus on the benefits which can be reaped from live music.
Native Teessider, Heather, 22, says she was inspired to create AMPT after the positive experiences of live music on her own health.
Emma Howitt, Chief Executive at Middlesbrough & Stockton Mind, who are supporting the event, said; “We are truly thrilled to have been chosen by AMPT as the local charity for the Alldayer. Music is a great way to bring people together in an atmosphere of energy, creativity and positivity which is good for our mental health!”
“Raising awareness and funds at the same time will enable us to support more local people going through challenging times and make sure they come through them. We’re really pleased to be part of this event.”
Leeds indie alternative four piece, The Strawberries, headline a total of twelve acts, who will rock across two stages. Other acts confirmed to play include Middlesbrough’s Abel Raise the Cain; Darlington’s Eve Conway and Durham’s The Yada Yada Yadas to name a few.
Local independent businesses such as Skins & Needles, the Infant Hercules, Barbarossa and The Tea House are generously supporting the day by providing exciting prizes for a raffle which will be drawn on the AMPT Facebook page following the event.
While the downstairs stage will be transformed into an atmospheric safe-zone environment to ensure the audience see the more intimate acts at their very best, the main stage upstairs will host six more acts offering a high power full band experience.
Heather founded AMPT in 2018 and grins proudly when talking about it. “Everyone is welcome and we want everyone to have a great time in a very friendly venue. You don’t have to be feeling down to attend, but if you feel a little better on your way home from the Alldayer than you did when you arrived, I’ll feel we’ve done our job.
“There’s a whole host of people working behind the scenes to help the day run smoothly, the response so far from people eager to contribute has been immense so we’re hoping for a really good turn out.”
The festival doors will open from 2pm on Saturday 13th July. Tickets are excellent value at £8 advance or £10 on the door and the event is 16+ only. Heather will be greeting guests throughout the day and at the AMPT Afterparty at Middlesbrough Empire.

Festive cheer as singer - announces Christmas show...

Whickham-born singer Anna Reay will be ringing in the festive season after announcing a one off Christmas show at the Sage Gateshead.

‘Anna Reay at Christmas’, will take place in Sage Two on December 6, 2018 and follows on from the success of her previous Sage Gateshead sell out show One Enchanted Evening last year, and Great Ladies of Song.

The classically trained songstress was inspired to create the show after receiving requests from her followers to record a Christmas EP which she has completed in time for the event.

She said: “I’ve always loved Christmas and since having my 4-year-old son, I make sure I am back to spend the season at home with my family. I love performing in my home town and recording the EP throughout August has got me prematurely excited for Christmas, even with the glorious heatwave we’ve had.”

Featuring a glittering line-up of special guests including soulful Britain’s Got Talent 2017 semi-finalist Jamie Lee Harrison and award-winning king of swing Chris Dakers, the show will be packed with an eclectic mix of Christmas classics and duets including ‘Baby it’s cold outside’, ‘All I Want for Christmas’, ‘Santa Baby’, ‘Let it Snow’ and ‘O Holy Night’ to bring festive cheer in time for Christmas.

Ms Reay added: “Throughout my career I have been fortunate enough to meet and work with some very talented musicians so I am delighted that our special guests have agreed to join us in helping get everyone into the spirit of Christmas.

“Family, friends, music and dancing is a perfect combination to kick-off the celebrations in style.”

The recent announcement of iconic Christmas crooner Mariah Carey’s three date UK tour in Nottingham, Leeds and London hasn’t deterred Anna’s enthusiasm for her show teasing that if people cannot get tickets to Carey’s show, they are all welcome at hers.

“I’ll be singing a few classics from Mariah Carey so if you can’t get tickets to her show, you can come to ours for a more intimate night out!” she added.

Since her debut performances over her 12-year career in various venues across the North East, the 36-year old singer has embarked on extensive tours of the UK, Europe and the USA as well as luxury Caribbean and Mediterranean cruise liners, and has sang arias in front of thousands at football matches.

There will be collection buckets on the night in aid of Anna’s chosen charity, Panache Group, the North East awareness charity for Alopecia.

Tickets are *£20 and are available from Sage Gateshead ticket office on 0191 443 4661 or visit www.sagegateshead.com
